Morrisville State uses second half to run past Cazenovia 15-7  on Senior Day

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State women's lacrosse team notched nine second half tallies Sunday afternoon as they defeated visiting Cazenovia College by a 15-7 final in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on Drake Field in Morrisville in Route 20 Rivalry play.

THE BASICS:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Cazenovia opened with a 2-1 lead before the Mustangs rattled off five straight scores to claim a 6-2 advantage.
  • The Wildcats added a final score of the half with 2:20 to go in the half, sending the game into the halftime break with a 6-3 host advantage.
  • Morrisville State opened the second half with three consecutive tallies to open the contest to a six goal lead, and after a fifth Cazenovia score, went on a four goal spurt to increase their lead to eight with 12 minutes to go in the contest.
  • Cazenovia closed out the contest with two scores in the final 10 minutes, as the Mustangs added one to their final total.
  • Celia Abbott (Shortsville, N.Y.) paced the Mustangs with three goals, adding two assists, while Melissa Lucciola (Monroe, N.Y.) also netted a hat trick with her three tallies.
  • Four additional teammates netted two apiece, including Chelsea McNeal (Ithaca, N.Y.) who added an assist to her totals on the day.
  • Morrisville State edged Cazenovia in draw controls from the center circle, 13-11, with 10 being snagged by senior Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.) who became the all-time leader in draw control wins in Mustang history on her second win of the day.
  •  Janet Hanehan (Saratoa Springs, N.Y.) collected six ground balls with fellow teammate Lexi Firkins (Brockport, N.Y.), as Morrisville State led the battle on the ground 40-23.

  • Morrisville State returns to the field on the 19th, traveling to Keuka College for a clash of the undefeated teams in NEAC play.
